Bark & Chill Recap: A Celebration of Second Chances

The Bark & Chill Event was a tremendous success, bringing together community members, advocates, and dog lovers for a day filled with joy, compassion, and purpose.

Hosted by Commissioner LaDena Bolton and CEO Lorraine Cochran-Johnson, and proudly co-sponsored by Pumps & Pups, this signature gathering welcomed nearly 150 guests to District 7 for an afternoon of love, laughter, and furry fun.

With the generous support of District 2 Commissioner Michelle Long Spears, Lifeline Animal Project, and Tucker Brewing Co., the event provided nearly 50 free vaccines and microchips to local pets. These efforts play an essential role in ensuring the continued safety and well-being of dogs across our community—helping owners protect their beloved companions and reduce the number of animals entering shelters.

We extend sincere appreciation to the DeKalb Animal Advisory Board members whose time, expertise, and dedication made this initiative possible. Their collaboration embodies the spirit of community service that strengthens and sustains our mission.

Among the day’s many joyful moments, one stood out as truly unforgettable: Rouge, the last of 33 dogs on the euthanasia list, was adopted by a loving family. Rouge’s adoption serves as a beautiful reminder that when the community comes together—with compassion and purpose—we create life-changing outcomes for both animals and the families who welcome them.

From the laughter shared among neighbors to the wagging tails that filled the air with energy, Bark & Chill was more than an event; it was a movement toward healing, hope, and connection.

At Pumps & Pups, we believe that every act of care—whether vaccinating a pet, volunteering time, or adopting a dog in need—contributes to a safer, more compassionate world. We are proud to stand alongside our community partners and leaders as we continue to protect both people and pets, one paw print at a time.

Thank you to everyone who made this event truly magical. Together, we’re not just saving lives—we’re creating love and lasting change across District 7 and beyond.
