k-9 Placement Program

ThePups & Pumps K-9 Placement Program is designed to help dogs who may need additional support, training, rehabilitation, or a more structured placement environment before transitioning into their next home.

We believe that a difficult history or behavioral challenge should not automatically determine a dog's future. Through individualized care, responsible placement, and evidence-informed rehabilitation, our goal is to give each dog the opportunity to build confidence, develop new skills, and find a safe and appropriate home.

How the program works

  • Step 1 : Evaluate

    Understanding the Dog as an Individual

    Every dog enters the program with their own history, personality, experiences, and individual needs. The evaluation process helps us better understand a dog’s behavior, strengths, challenges, triggers, and overall needs so that we can develop an appropriate plan for rehabilitation and placement.

  • Step 2 : Rehabilitation

    Building Skills, Confidence & Trust

    Rehabilitation focuses on helping each dog develop the skills and confidence they need to move forward. Depending on the individual dog, this may include structured training, enrichment, behavior modification, socialization, confidence-building exercises, and positive experiences designed to help the dog learn more appropriate and comfortable ways to respond to their environment.

  • Step 3 : Prepare

    Preparing for a Successful Transition

    Before placement, we work to help the dog transition from a structured rehabilitation environment into the routines and expectations of a home. This may include practicing everyday skills, building positive interactions with people and animals when appropriate, and identifying the type of environment and support system that will give the dog the best opportunity to succeed.

  • Step 4 : Place

    Finding the Right Match

    Successful placement isn't simply about finding a home—it's about finding the right home. We consider the dog's individual needs, behavior, energy level, environment, and continued support requirements when determining an appropriate placement. Our goal is to create a safe and sustainable match where both the dog and their new family have the opportunity to thrive.

A successful placement requires more than providing a home. It requires patience, consistency, understanding, and a willingness to continue supporting a dog's development.

We are looking for individuals and families who are willing to work with the Pups & Pumps team and provide an environment appropriate for the individual dog's needs.

Placement homes should be prepared to:

  • Provide a safe and stable environment

  • Follow individualized training and care recommendations

  • Provide appropriate daily exercise and enrichment

  • Maintain veterinary care

  • Communicate with the Pups & Pumps team

  • Practice patience and consistency

  • Continue appropriate training after placement

  • Understand that behavioral progress takes time

  • Be honest about their household, experience, and limitations
